Sliding Window Replacement in Raleigh NC
Wide views, simple operation, and fewer parts to wear out. Custom made for your openings.
Is a Sliding Window Right for Your Home?
Do you have a window that is wider than it is tall? Is it hard to reach because it sits over a counter or a bed?
That is where sliding windows shine. Instead of lifting a sash up, you push it sideways. It takes very little effort, even on a large window.
We have installed sliders across the Triangle since 1986. They are a smart choice for many Raleigh ranch homes and split-levels.

How Sliding Windows Work
A sliding window has two sashes side by side. One or both glide left and right on a track at the bottom.
Some larger openings use a three-panel slider. The center pane stays fixed, and the two side panels slide toward it.
Where Sliders Work Best
| Spot in Your Home | Why a Slider Fits |
|---|---|
| Over the kitchen sink | Easy to open with one hand while you lean over the counter |
| Wide living room windows | Keeps a wide, open view with a slim center frame |
| Bedrooms | Large openings can help meet egress rules for emergency exits |
| Basements and lower levels | Short, wide openings are a natural fit |
| Ranch and mid-century homes | Matches the long, low look of the house |
Sliding vs. Double-Hung
Not sure which style to choose? Here is a quick comparison.
| Sliding | Double-Hung | |
|---|---|---|
| How it opens | Side to side | Up and down |
| Best shape | Wider than tall | Taller than wide |
| Effort to open | Very low | Low |
| Moving parts | Few (no balances) | More (balances and springs) |
| Upfront cost | $ | $ |
Fewer moving parts means less to break over time. Sliders have no balance springs, which are one of the first things to fail on older up-and-down windows.
Signs Your Sliding Windows Need Replacing
- The sash sticks, drags, or jumps off the track
- Bent or worn rollers that make the window hard to move
- Water pooling in the bottom track after rain
- Drafts at the center where the two sashes meet
- Old aluminum frames that feel cold or sweat in winter
- Locks that do not latch
Many older Raleigh homes still have aluminum sliders from the 1970s and 1980s. Aluminum pulls heat right through the frame. Replacing them is one of the quickest ways to make a room more comfortable.

Upgrade the Glass, Not Just the Frame
Sliders often fill big openings, so the glass makes up most of the window. Upgrading it makes a real difference in a Raleigh summer.

What Do Sliding Windows Cost?
Sliders are one of the more budget-friendly styles. Most full window projects in Raleigh run between $6,000 and $40,000, based on the number and size of windows and your glass choice.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are sliding windows energy efficient?
Modern vinyl sliders with good weatherstripping and insulated glass seal well. The biggest gains come from replacing old aluminum sliders, which lose a lot of heat through the frame.
Can a sliding window be used for a bedroom egress window?
Often, yes. Bedroom windows need a large enough opening to serve as an emergency exit. We will check the size during your estimate so your new window meets the rules.
Can you replace a sliding window with a different style?
In many cases, yes. Some homeowners swap a slider for a casement or double-hung window. We will tell you what fits your opening.
How do I keep my sliding windows working smoothly?
Vacuum the bottom track a few times a year, especially during pollen season. Keeping the track clean is the best way to keep the sash gliding easily.
How long does installation take?
Most homes take one to two days once the windows arrive. Most jobs start 3 to 4 weeks after you book.
