Window Replacement Cost in Raleigh NC

What new windows really cost, what drives the price, and how to plan your budget.

How Much Does Window Replacement Cost in Raleigh?

Most window replacement projects in Raleigh cost between $6,000 and $40,000. Where you land depends on how many windows you replace, the styles you pick, and the glass inside them.

That is a wide range. So what puts one home at $6,000 and another at $40,000?

We have priced window jobs across the Triangle since 1986. This guide walks through the same factors we look at during every free estimate.

What Does a Typical Project Look Like?

Project Type Where It Usually Falls Common Example
A few problem windows Lower end of the range Replacing foggy or drafty windows on one side of the house
One floor or one wing Middle of the range All first-floor windows in a ranch or split-level home
Whole-house replacement Middle to upper end Every window in a two-story home
Whole house with premium glass or specialty windows Upper end Triple-pane glass plus a bay or bow window

6 Things That Change the Price

1. The Number of Windows

This is the biggest factor. More windows means more material and more labor.

The good news? Replacing every window at once often lowers the cost per window. The crew is already set up, and you only go through the process once.

2. Window Style

Some styles are simple. Others have more moving parts or need extra framing work.

Style Relative Cost Why
Double-hung $ The most common style and the simplest to replace
Sliding $ Simple design with few moving parts
Picture (fixed) $ to $$ Does not open, but large sizes cost more
Casement $$ Crank hardware and a tighter seal
Awning $$ Hinged at the top with crank hardware
Bay or bow $$$ Several windows joined together, often with extra framing and a roof cap

3. The Glass Package

Glass is about 90% of a window. It is also where your energy savings come from.

  • Standard double pane: The lowest upfront cost.
  • Heat Mirror: A suspended film between the panes boosts insulation.
  • Ascent thin triple pane: Triple-pane performance that is lighter and brighter than regular triple pane.

Premium glass costs more on day one. In return, it blocks more summer heat and cuts drafts for the life of the window. Learn more about our energy-efficient window options. Weighing frame materials too? Compare vinyl vs. fiberglass windows.

4. Installation Type

Many replacements use a pocket install. The new window fits inside the existing frame, which keeps costs down.

If the old frame is rotted or damaged, a full-frame install may be needed. It costs more but fixes the problem at the source. Our Cary window cost guide explains the difference in more detail, and our guide to pocket vs. full-frame replacement covers when each one makes sense.

5. The Age and Condition of Your Home

Raleigh has a wide mix of housing. A 1920s bungalow in Oakwood or Five Points is a very different job from a 2005 build in Brier Creek.

Older homes can mean odd window sizes, wavy openings, or hidden rot. Homes built before 1978 may also need lead-safe work practices when old windows come out. These factors can add time and cost.

6. Extras and Trim

Do you want grids, a new color, or upgraded hardware? Does the outside trim need new wrap? Small choices like these add up. We list each one in your proposal so you can decide what is worth it.

What Is Included in Our Price?

When we give you a number, it covers the whole job:

  • Measuring every opening
  • Custom-made windows built to fit
  • Removal and disposal of the old windows
  • Professional installation by our own crew
  • Sealing and finishing inside and out
  • Daily cleanup
  • A lifetime warranty that covers glass breakage

Comparing quotes? Ask each company if all of these are included. A low price that leaves out disposal or trim is not a low price.

Are Cheaper Windows Worth It?

Sometimes a big-box quote looks lower at first. But what are you getting for the money?

Budget windows often come in stock sizes, with basic glass and a short warranty. Gaps around a poor fit let air leak in, which cancels out the savings.

One of our customers put it simply:

“Very friendly, easy to schedule. Tricky install on an old home but done beautifully. Price was half of big box stores and warranty was better. Wouldn’t use anyone else for windows.”

Smart Ways to Manage the Cost

  • Start with the worst windows. Replace the drafty or foggy ones first and do the rest later.
  • Put premium glass where it counts. West- and south-facing windows take the most sun. Some homeowners choose triple pane there and standard glass elsewhere.
  • Do the whole house at once if you can. It often lowers the cost per window.
  • Ask about financing. Monthly payments can make a whole-house project easier to manage.
  • Book early. Spring and fall are our busiest times, so planning ahead gives you more flexibility.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to replace all the windows in a house in Raleigh?

A whole-house window replacement in Raleigh usually falls in the middle to upper part of our $6,000 to $40,000 range. The number of windows, styles, and glass choice decide the final price.

Is it cheaper to replace windows all at once?

Often, yes. Doing every window in one project usually lowers the cost per window because setup and labor are shared across the whole job.

Do I need a permit to replace windows in Raleigh?

Most like-for-like window replacements do not need a permit. If the opening size or structure changes, one may be required. We will let you know during your estimate.

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Every estimate is free, and there is no pressure to buy. You get a clear, written proposal so you can compare options.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We offer financing to help spread out the cost. We can walk you through the options at your estimate.

How long does window replacement take?

Most homes take one to two days once the windows arrive. Because each window is custom made, most jobs start 3 to 4 weeks after you book.
